HP NonStop Open
System Services
(OSS)
The product name for the OSS environment. See the Open System Services (OSS).
Manpage A term sometimes used in UNIX documentation for the online or hard-copy version of a file that
provides reference information.
Open System
Services (OSS)
An open system environment available for interactive or programmatic use with the HP NonStop
operating system. Processes that run in the OSS environment usually use the OSS application
program interface; interactive users of the OSS environment usually use the OSS shell for their
command interpreter. Synonymous with HP NonStop Open System Services (OSS) environment.

Layer
A protocol for private communication on the World Wide Web and authentication of a web
server by a web client.
SSL See Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).
Super ID On HP NonStop systems, a privileged user who can read, write, execute, and purge all files on
the system. The super ID is usually a member of a system-supervisor group.
The super ID has the set of special permissions called appropriate privileges. In the Guardian
environment, the structured view of the super ID, which is (255, 255), is most commonly used;
in the OSS environment, the scalar view of the super ID, which is 65535, is most commonly used.
TACL See Tandem Advanced Command Language (TACL).

Language (TACL)
The user interface to the Tandem NonStop Kernel in the Guardian environment. The TACL product
is both a command interpreter and a command language.
Unstructured file A disk file that is essentially a large byte array, most often used as a code file or an EDIT file,
not as a data file.
