Availability of TFDS During System Startup
Availability of TFDS During System Startup
When the system is starting up, the TFDS processes are started in a long sequence of
startup activities. Depending on the availability of these processes and what events
occur during startup, you might encounter problems with:
•
CPU dumping: The TFDS monitor is started by the Persistence Manager. The
StartMode value is SYSTEM. Until the TFDS monitor starts, no CPU dumping
service is automatically offered by TFDS.
•
TFDS Instruments: Some of the TFDS clients are started before the TFDS helpers
in the system startup sequence. The TFDS helpers, which offer instrumentation
services, have a StartMode value of SYSTEM. The clients known at this point are:
°
LANMAN, started by the Persistence Manager ($ZPM) at StartMode KERNEL.
°
TCPMAN, started by the Persistence Manager ($ZPM) at StartMode SYSTEM.
The StartMode values are, in order: KERNEL, SYSTEM, and APPLICATION. A
component with a specific StartMode value cannot rely on the availability of
another component sharing the same StartMode value. The order in which
components of the same StartMode value are started is defined by their priority. If
the priority is the same, then they are started in the reverse order of their symbolic
names. None of the preceding clients can rely on the TFDS services to be
available for a brief time period during system startup.
