3 Reconfiguring Audit Trails
TMF allows you to change a number of audit-trail configuration options; most of these
can be changed online by using an ALTER AUDITTRAIL command while TMF and
your application are running. This section describes in more detail how to reconfigure
audit trails and explains when you might want to do so.
This section contains the following topics:
Some of the topics in this section involve adding or deleting active-audit volumes.
After you have issued the first START TMF command, you can add and delete active-
audit volumes only while TMF is started.
Using Auxiliary Audit Trails
You should add an auxiliary audit trail only to fulfill a specific need, and if there is no
other reasonable way to achieve the desired result. Most applications, even very large
ones, use only a master audit trail. TMF does, however, allow you to configure up to
15 auxiliary audit trails per NonStop system.
You add an auxiliary audit trail the same way you do the master audit trail, except that
you specify AUXxx instead of MAT in the ADD AUDITTRAIL command (where xx is a
number from 01 through 15). To add an auxiliary audit trail after you have started TMF,
you must first stop TMF and delete TMF configuration.
Like the master audit trail, each auxiliary audit trail can span up to 16 disk volumes,
can have up to 100 audit-trail files per active-audit volume, and must include a
minimum of two audit-trail files (at least one active-audit volume containing two audit-
trail files, or two active-audit volumes containing one audit-trail file apiece).
