Configuration Options for Backup and Recovery
There are several practical considerations related to directing online dumps to a
remote system:
Network bandwidth directly affects the speed at which remote dumps are
performed. If the link to the remote system has a low bandwidth, the dump takes
longer than it would on the local system. If your system has a Fiber Optic
Extension (FOX) link to the remote system, the dump is performed almost as
quickly as if it were being done on the local system.
The remote system must be accessible whenever online dumps are scheduled.
You should have an alternate site where you can direct online dumps if the primary
site experiences system downtime.
Coordination with operations staff at the remote site ensures that tapes are
mounted or that disks are available for online dumps as needed.
To direct audit dumping to a remote system, include the SYSTEM option in an ALTER
AUDITDUMP command.
To direct online dumping to a remote system if you are dumping to tape, include the
SYSTEM option in the DUMP FILES command.
To direct online dumping to a remote system if you are dumping to disk, include the
target system name in the disk file name you specify in the DISKMEDIA option in the
DUMP FILES command.
Configuration Options for Backup and
Recovery
TMF provides the following configuration options related to backup and recovery:
Turning the audit dump feature on or off for an audit trail
Pausing and resuming audit dumping at run time
Changing other configured parameters for audit dumps
Selecting options for online dumps
Setting the recovery mode for volume recovery
These options can be reconfigured through various TMFCOM commands.
