Changing the Block Size
Changing the Number of Audit Dump Copies
By default, the audit dump process generates one copy of each audit dump. To protect
against the possibility of media failure if you are directing audit dumps to tape, you
might want to use the COPIES option of the ALTER AUDITDUMP command to specify
two copies of each audit dump. You can direct the two copies to different systems by
using the SYSTEM option.
Changing the Manner in Which Copies Are Made
If you have specified more than one tape copy of each audit dump, you can configure
TMF to make the copies either in series or in parallel. You do this by using the
PARALLEL or SERIES keyword in the COPIES option of the ALTER AUDITDUMP
command. The default is to make the copies in parallel.
Changing the Block Size
If you are directing audit dumps to tape, you can specify the tape block size to be used
by using the BLOCKSIZE option of the ALTER AUDITDUMP command. The default
block size is 28.
Turning Tape Verification On or Off
If you are directing audit dumps to tape, you can turn tape verification on or off by using
the VERIFYTAPE option of the ALTER AUDITDUMP command. The default is off.
Selecting Options for Online Dumps
You use the DUMP FILES command to initiate online dumps. In addition to specifying
which database tables and files are to be dumped, you can specify the following:
The desired dump media—tape or disk—and the names of the target tape or disk
drives
The system on which the dumps are to be archived
In addition, if you are dumping to tape, you can specify the following:
The number of copies to be made of each dump
The manner in which multiple copies are made—from series to parallel or from
parallel to series
The block size
Caution. Consider the operations and values described in the following discussion very
carefully, because the basis for them is subject to ongoing change. If such changes were
implemented in TMF since this manual was published with RVU G06.26, they will be described
in TMF Supplement for Limits and Defaults Changed After RVU G06.26. If that Supplement
currently exists, please read it for new information about this topic.
