Selecting Options for Online Dumps
Whether you want tape verification
Whether you want the tapes unloaded at the completion of the dump
Selecting the Online Dump Medium
To direct online dumps to disk rather than tape (the default) and to specify one or more
disk drives to be used, include the DISKMEDIA option in the DUMP FILES command.
To direct audit dumps to tape rather than disk and to specify one or more tape drives,
include the TAPEMEDIA option.
If you direct dumps to disk on the local system, the TMF dump processes automatically
generate dump subvolume names consisting of a two-character alphabetic prefix (the
default is ZT) followed by a six-digit serial number. Dumping to disk on a remote
system requires that you explicitly designate a different prefix. When designating the
disk volume to receive dumps, you can specify the prefix of your choice by appending
it to the disk volume name, as follows:
$BACKUP.AA
One reason you might want to supply your own prefixes is to segregate different
applications’ dumps from one another.
Specifying the System
If you are dumping to tape, you specify the system or systems to which online dumps
are directed by using the SYSTEM option in the DUMP FILES command.
If you are dumping to disk, you change the system or systems to which online dumps
are directed by including a system name in the disk file name you specify in the
DISKMEDIA option in the DUMP FILES command.
By default, online dumps are directed to the local system.
Specifying the Number of Online Dump Copies
By default, the audit dump process generates one copy of each online dump. To
protect against the possibility of media failure if you are directing online dumps to tape,
you might want to use the COPIES option of the DUMP FILES command to specify two
copies of each online dump. You can direct the two copies to different systems by
using the SYSTEM option.
Specifying the Manner in Which Copies Are Made
If you have specified more than one tape copy of each online dump, you can configure
TMF to make the copies either in series or in parallel. You do this by using the
PARALLEL or SERIES keyword in the COPIES option of the DUMP FILES command.
The default is to make the copies in parallel.
