Specifying the Block Size
Specifying the Block Size
If you are directing audit dumps to tape, you can specify the tape block size to be used
by using the BLOCKSIZE option of the DUMP FILES command. The default block size
is 8.
Turning Tape Verification On or Off
If you are directing audit dumps to tape, you can turn tape verification on or off by using
the VERIFYTAPE option of the DUMP FILES command. The default is off.
Specifying Whether to Unload Tapes at Completion
If you are directing audit dumps to tape, you can specify whether the tapes are
automatically unloaded after completion of the dump by using the UNLOAD option of
the DUMP FILES command. The default is off.
Setting the Recovery Mode for Volume Recovery
When you configure data volumes for TMF, you choose the recovery mode for each
volume.
The recovery mode governs the way TMF retains audit information for automatic
volume recovery. If you select online (the default), TMF maintains a sufficient number
of audit-trail files on disk for volume recovery. If you select archive, TMF keeps less
audit information on disk, so volume recovery might require the restoration of audit files
from tape.
If audit dumping is off for an audit trail, the recovery mode for the associated data
volumes must be online. If audit dumping is on, you might want to set the recovery
mode to archive if disk space on audit volumes is critical.
To set or change the recovery mode, use the ADD DATAVOLS command.
Caution. Consider the operations and values described in the following discussion very
carefully, because the basis for them is subject to ongoing change. If such changes were
implemented in TMF since this manual was published with RVU G06.26, they will be described
in TMF Supplement for Limits and Defaults Changed After RVU G06.26. If that Supplement
currently exists, please read it for new information about this topic.
Caution. If you configure volumes in archive recovery mode, you must perform regular online
dumps to ensure that the audit dumps stay current.
The TMF catalog retains all audit dumps that are needed to recover files included in online
backups; it does not keep track of which audit dumps are needed to perform volume recovery
on data volumes configured in archive recovery mode. Therefore, if archive recovery mode is
selected and no online dumps have been taken to keep the dump catalog current, disk
volumes containing audit dumps that were archived might be deleted in the normal course of
recycling volumes.
