Fallback From Phase B
If the file-size attribute has not been altered for any audit trail, there are no TMF issues
for fallback. The TMF audit-trail configuration remains compatible with older format 1
configurations.
If the file-size attribute has been altered (increased or decreased) for one or more of
the audit trails, but the transition phase for the affected audit trails has ended such that
all active and preallocated files have the latest configured file size, there are no
fallback issues. (Just as if the ALTER AUDITTRAIL, FILESIZE command had not
been used.)
If any audit trail is still in transition, however, such that some of the files still have the
old file size, there are issues relating to fallback.
The best option, if possible, is to wait for the transition phase to complete before falling
back. This implies that enough rollovers have occurred so that all of the existing files
are the correct size. You can accelerate this process, if necessary, by issuing NEXT
AUDITTRAIL commands for the particular audit trails.
If you cannot get out of the transition state prior to falling back, you must issue
commands to eliminate the files that still have the old file size, which means that you
may have to do the following steps more than once:
1. Issue an ALTER AUDITTRAIL, FILESPERVOLUME command to increase the
FilesPerVolume attribute by the number of old files that still exist (including
preallocated and active files).
2. Issue the necessary number of NEXT AUDITTRAIL commands to unpin any files
that have the old file size (in case they were pinned at fallback time). Wait until the
files are no longer pinned for any reason and are available.
3. Issue an ALTER AUDITTRAIL, FILESPERVOLUME command to decrease the
FilesPerVolume attribute by the number of preallocated plus available active files.
All files of the old file size should now be purged.
4. Examine the configuration to check that all of the old files have been eliminated.
5. Change the FilesPerVolume attribute to the desired long term value.
