3 Introduction to PDMCOM
Pathway Domain Management Command interpreter (PDMCOM) is a command line interface
used to start PDMI. By default, it resides in $SYSTEM.SYSTEM, which is a superset of PATHCOM,
and supports wildcarded object names.
PDMCOM provides an easy configuration and management interface for multiple Pathway
environments grouped together in a domain. This domain feature, provided by ACS, eliminates
application outages through online changes to the Pathway configuration.
NOTE: PDMCOM does not support SPI commands.
This section includes these topics:
• “Starting and Using PDMCOM” (page 38)
• “PDMCOM Commands” (page 40)
Starting and Using PDMCOM
After starting the PATHMON processes, you can start a PDMCOM process to communicate with
the PATHMON processes by issuing an implicit RUN command to TACL.
Example 1:
> PDMCOM
This command starts the PDMCOM process.
You can enter this command from your terminal, as shown in Example 1. Alternatively, you can
create a command file that contains this command (and others) and then run the command.
The operating system responds to the command by creating the PDMCOM process.
For PDMCOM to function correctly, both PDMCOM and PATHCOM must reside in the same
location. By default, both PDMCOM and PATHCOM are installed at $SYSTEM.SYSTEM.
When PDMCOM starts, it displays the PDMCOM message on the screen, and presents a ">>"
sign as a prompt for the first PDMCOM command:
PDMI - T0845H01 - (01MAY2008) - 11 July 2008, 19:12:22
(C)2008 Hewlett Packard Development Company, L.P.
PDMI 1>>
Enter the PDMCOM commands to perform the remainder of the system management tasks. When
you enter the first PDMCOM command, PDMCOM runs it and prompts you for another command.
You can enter the remainder of the commands from the terminal, or you can create a command
file that contains the commands and then run the commands in that file.
Running PDMCOM interactively is most useful when you plan to enter only a few commands. It is
a good way to monitor the status of objects, dynamically start and stop objects, run a program,
and send messages to user terminal operators about changing conditions. It is generally easier
and faster, however, to set up lengthy configurations non-interactively.
PDMCOM RUN Options
The command to run PDMCOM, like the command to run the PATHMON process, allows you to
select several RUN options. For instance, you can select the CPU in which PDMCOM runs or specify
a device other than the terminal as the destination of output from PDMCOM. If you do not specify
these options, the operating system supplies standard default values.
