TS/MP Release Supplement

Migrating Applications to TS/MP 2.3 and Later
Versions
HP NonStop TS/MP Release Supplement546055-006
5-3
TS/MP 2.3 Environment Differences
required for functional compatibility are now supplied by the ACS subsystem;
minimal, if any, updates to your applications are needed. For information on ACS
subsystem Pathsend API errors, see the
TS/MP System Management Manual.
905 (FESCNoServerLinkAvailable) errors: You might encounter an increased
frequency of 905 (
FESCNoServerLinkAvailable) errors because of the
different handling method of work load distribution.
The ACS subsystem provides two processes (the redirector and the process
broker) that functionally replace the single ROUT process in TS/MP 2.0. The ACS
subsystem returns error 905 when the following sequence of events occur:
1. The redirector process needs a link for a request and asks the process broker
for a link.
2. The process broker does not receive a link from the PATHMON process.
3. However, at the same time, the redirector process is returning a link that the
process broker cannot process yet.
In this situation, the ACS subsystem is not aware of the waiting available link and
returns error 905. However, TS/MP 2.0 is aware of the waiting available link and
provides the link without returning an error.
HP recommends that you increase the number of links available in the server class
configuration or retry the request. If you retry the request, it typically completes
without an error unless there are no links to that server class in the CPU and none
are available from the PATHMON process.
Changes to the TS/MP server DELETEDELAY attribute: The DELETEDELAY
attribute specifies the minimum duration a dynamic server link is left idle before the
ACS subsystem link management processes return the link to a PATHMON
process. (In contrast, the TS/MP 2.0
DELETEDELAY attribute specifies the exact
duration a dynamic server is idle.)
New Management Interface (PDMI) and Updated PATHMON/PATHCOM
components: TS/MP 2.3 includes a new management interface called the Pathway
Domain Management Interface (PDMI). The new interface is a superset of the
existing PATHCOM interface, which supports all existing PATHCOM commands
and provides new commands to configure and manage multiple PATHMON
processes with replicated Pathway configuration.
HP recommends that the new interface be used to configure and manage
PATHMON processes participating in a Pathway domain. For information on the
new and changed commands of the PDMI interface, see PDMCOM Commands
.
TS/MP 2.3 also contains updated versions of the PATHMON and PATHCOM
components that support higher PATHMON configuration limits and support
wildcard characters for PATHCOM commands for SERVER objects.
Changes to switching between context-free and context-sensitive sends: When a
link performs a context-free send, it is not immediately available to perform
context-sensitive sends and vice versa. For such sends, the link becomes
available within 1 to 2 minutes.
