Installation, Configuration, and Startup
This section describes the steps for installing, configuring, and starting ViewPoint. The
procedures in this section must be completed before you can do the procedures shown in
Section 2, Using ViewPoint.
ViewPoint Installation
The ViewPoint software is installed at your site with newly released Compaq software,
using the Install program that is documented in the System Generation Manual.
Following a cold load of the system image tape (SIT), which is produced by the Install
program, some additional steps are necessary to complete the installation of ViewPoint.
These additional steps are described in the section, “Installation Steps, later in this
section. Before you begin installation, read the following subsections, “General
Installation Information” and “Before You Begin.
General Installation Information
The overall installation procedure can be summarized as follows:
The Install program moves a release of ViewPoint from tape to an Installation
Subvolume (ISV).
You then use a TACL routine (also called Install) to create ViewPoint installations
from the Installation Subvolume (ISV).
The system Install program automatically installs all the necessary TACL routines for
ViewPoint configuration, installation, and invocation and for installing the Define
Process functions. TACL uses a shared directory called :UTILS to hold these TACL
routines provided by Compaq.
The Install program places ViewPoint TACL routines under the three directories shown
in Table 7-1.
You should customize your #USELIST to include these directories. See the subsection,
“Before You Begin” later in this section for how to include these directories in your
#USELIST.
