X3PAD Input Source
X3PAD requires a conversation-mode (also called character-mode) input source. Any
source that can operate in conversation mode, such as a terminal or an application,
can function as an input source. For example, the terminal connected through
ATP6100, as shown in Figure 4-1, can communicate with the X3PAD program.
Examples of output devices supported by X3PAD (in conversation mode only) are
listed in Table 4-1 on page 4-3.
X3PAD does not support page-mode (block-mode) access. The following list shows
examples of terminals as input sources for X3PAD:
65xx terminals
HP emulator terminals
MULTILAN terminals
In this section, the word “terminal” represents the input source.
Remote Device
Since X3PAD does not support the transfer of block-mode data, the remote device
must send conversation-mode data. The remote device can be, among other things, a
conversation mode terminal connected to the network by a PAD, another computer
system, or an application using an X25AM process with the ITI protocol.
