BackBox is the ETI-NET virtual tape solution to connect the NonStop Guardian tape
subsystem to external storage facilities.
BackBox is part of the BackPak ETI-NET family of backup related products:
• BackBox provides NonStop virtual tape capability storing the virtual volumes
in various Enterprise storage infrastructures.
• BackLib integrates directly-connected HP or third-party tape virtual or
physical tape libraries to the NonStop tape system
The storage system for the virtual volumes is named a “Data Store” in BackBox
terminology. BackBox currently supports two Data Store types:
• An MS-Windows compatible disk file system:
o Any internal disk or SAN LUNs, configured under the Windows
file system, or
o Any file server that is compatible with the Windows operating
system. This includes specialized file servers such as the HP
StoreOnce de-duplication server.
• A storage infrastructure implemented via an API to high-end
software such as IBM Tivoli Storage Manager. In this case, the
storage system provides policy-based data migration and
duplication, as well as a wide choice of storage media and devices.
This manual describes how to configure and operate BackBox and how to link the
NonStop tape subsystem to the chosen external storage.
