Attachment to another Virtual Tape System
Images of virtual tape volumes can be exchanged directly with a tier party Virtual
tape unit. The transfer is possible only from the tier-party to the BackBox system,
i.e. for virtualizations.
Like the BackBox, other Virtual tape systems are able to materialize/virtualize. In
addition the BackBox VTC is able to provide to the other system a device that
appears as a physical tape drive. This link allows a tier-party Virtual tape unit to
materialize on a side and the VTC to virtualize on the other side.
To install this connection:
In the VTC, among the target-mode tape controllers, one FC port is
dedicated for the emulation for Unix or Windows hosts, and one or
several tape drives must be configured on this port.
A cable connects the VTC (target-mode tape controller) to the tier-
party Virtual tape unit (host tape controller).
In the tier-party Virtual tape unit, the tape devices are configured in
the Operating System.
VTC configuration
The VTC is configured by editing the BBFcEmulPortCfg.xml file and
restarting the FC Emulator service (NonStop devices attached to the
VTC should be stopped before the service is restarted).
To access the file, open the Start menu and expand up to reach the
VTC Configuration folder (All Programs BackPak Virtual Tape
