BackBox H4.00 User Manual
Appendix C – Migration to the BackBox product
204 BackBox H4.00 User Manual
In the Volume tab, the page “Import from Tape Catalog” allows to select the tape
volumes that are SCRATCH in a tape catalogue and populate the BackPak own
catalogue of virtual volumes. The imported volumes are ready for new backups.
As the migration can lasts several months, it can happen that legacy volumes that
were not SCRATCH initially expire before they are visualized.
The “Auto-import” below will pick up these volumes.
This feature is enabled only when the BackBox Volume Group is configured for IN-
PROGRESS migration. See more in the next section.
It this case, when $ZSVR issues a mount request for a SCRATCH volume, BackPak
will try to process it even if the volume is unknown in BackPak.
If the requested volume belongs to one of the tape catalog associated to BackPakl
Volume Groups configured for “Migration to BackBox” IN-PROGRESS, then:
o The volume will be automatically registered in BackPak
o The volume will be loaded so the backup will execute for writing to a BackBox
virtual tape
Concurrent operation of legacy system and BackBox
Two scenarios of concurrent operations are supported; the choice of scenario is
configured in the Volume Groups, through the “Migration to BackBox” parameter.
