BackBox H4.00 User Manual
Product Description
22 BackBox H4.00 User Manual
• Delete backed up files after a certain number of days has elapsed since their
backup, allowing for the immediate retrieve of recent backups and freeing of
disk space associated to old backups (BB023_DEL_BACKEDUP)
• Delete restored files after a certain number of days have elapsed since their
restore, allowing several executions of the NonStop RESTORE program after a
single execution of the restore script (BB023_DEL_BACKEDUP).
• Check the available free space against a warning threshold set in the Data
Store configuration and the maximum volume size configured in Volume
Groups (BB022_CHECK_SPACE).
Windows disk path reservation
For Windows Data Stores, there might be reasons to segregate different kind of
virtual volumes in different disks.
For example, just part of the available Windows disks is mirrored and should be
assigned to TMF AUDIT dumps, or to backups of a specific DSMTC pool.
The disk path reservation allows specifying that certain disks path will be used
exclusively for a specific Volume class.
Volumes in a Volume class with reserved paths will only use these paths.
The configuration of disk path reservation can be set or changed through the Data
Store configuration page of the BackPak UI.
Windows advanced pool management
With this option, a user can define a ‘Spare pool’ and a ‘Copy pool’ in addition to the
regular ‘Storage pool’ of disk locations.
The Spare pool is a second choice, emergency disk pool. This is pool of disk
locations the VTC will not use, until all disk locations of the ‘Storage pool’ are
unavailable or full. If the regular ‘Storage pool’ becomes fully un-available:
• The new backups will be written to this ‘Spare pool’.
This fail-safe backup is available only for Volume Groups defined as
Auto Scratch.
• For a NonStop restore to solve by a restore script fetching the virtual
volume from back-end Backup software, the ‘Spare pool’ will be used
as alternative staging area.
The content of ‘Spare pool’ is not automatically moved to the regular ‘Storage pool’
when it becomes available. But such a job can be initiated manually in the BackPak
UI, Storage Admin, “Move Files from Spare pool” link.
The Copy pool is a direct access to a copy of the ‘Storage pool’, allowing to restore
from a copied virtual volume without executing any restore script fetching back the
copy to the regular ‘Storage pool’. The VTC will search in the ‘Copy pool’ only when
a NonStop restore is executed and the virtual volume is not found in the regular
‘Storage pool’.
