Product Description
24 BackBox H4.00 User Manual
TSM Data Store
In a Tivoli Storage Manager server, a virtual volume is materialized by a series of
TSM objects of a certain size.
A BackBox server can either be a TSM client and can even host the TSM server when
the BackBox is set up as a storage appliance.
Tivoli Storage Manager Software
The TSM Windows client API runtime module is required in VTCs accessing TSM
servers. An enterprise TSM server might be shared, or a dedicated TSM server can
be installed for the BackBox clients.
This software must be bought from an authorized distributor and installed according
to user requirements.
TSM features
As the BackBox software is a regular API client for TSM servers, all TSM
functionalities offered to API clients are available.
A TSM server is a high-end storage management offering:
Rule-based storage management, with automatic migration and duplication.
The TSM Management Class is specified in the BackBox Volume Group
configuration.
Support of several platforms to run the server.
A choice of connectivity between the BackBox and an external TSM server,
including LAN-free connections.
A wide choice of storage media, drives and libraries.
