35 BackBox H4.00 User Manual
Configuration
This chapter provides explanations and guidelines to complement:
• The following chapter “User Interface” that documents the actual UI pages.
• The distinct manual “BackBox installation Guide” that describes the overall
procedure to install the product.
The chapter is organized in the following sections.
Entities configured in a Domain briefly presents the main entities defined in a
Domain configuration.
Special Considerations at Installation gathers a few general interest concerns
with some specific and unrelated notes that should be quickly browsed before any
installation.
WINDISK Data Stores and TSM Data Stores present guides and hints for this
kind of storage.
The two latest sections gather specially detailed items:
EMS extractor configuration provides reference for this BBEXT program that
automates tape load. Each instance of BBEXT process has its own private small
configuration file BBEXTCFG that is usually fully tailored by the INSTALL macro
run at installation time.
Setup for recovery discusses the protection of the elements of a BackBox
environment for recovery purpose.
Entities configured in a Domain
The BackPak Domain configuration defines the VTC(s), their virtual devices, where
the images of virtual volumes are stored and the volume characteristics.
This configuration is kept in the BBSVCFG NonStop file located in the same disk sub-
volume as the Domain Manager program BBSV.
It is updated through the BackPak GUI.
For a full description of each configuration parameter, please see Configuration, in
the user interface section of this manual.
Although the configuration file BBSVCFG could also be edited directly in XML, this is
not recommended and not fully supported. In some settings, the edition outside the
GUI voids a special security setting; see more in NonStop Access - BBSV PROGID
.
From the main Configuration tab of the GUI, a sub-tab allows the user to configure
each entity:
• The Domain contains global data such as the license key and traces
settings.
