Considerations about the Scope of a Domain
Number of NonStop nodes per BackPak Domain
A Domain has:
A main node that hosts the Domain Manager, the configuration and
catalog of virtual volumes. This node runs the Domain daily batch
OBB017.
Optional peripheral nodes that host only the EMS Extractor.
The GUI requires a distinct sign-on to each domain. A GUI instance shows
only the configuration and operation of a domain.
A multi-nodes domain allows consolidating the configuration and operation.
On the other side, this creates dependency across nodes. The virtual tape
drives of all nodes depend on the availability of the node hosting the Domain
Manager.
There is no hard-coded limit to the number of nodes in a domain but
response time might become an issue with more than six nodes.
An alternative to peripheral node is a node without virtual tape drive, but
connected by a fast Expand to the node equipped with virtual tape drives.
Both TMF and DSM/TC allows backing up / restore to a remote node.
