45 BackBox H4.00 User Manual
On the NonStop platform, the BackPak application is used to configure BackPak, to
automate the tape operations and to provide a GUI to manually operate and support
tape operations.
Operator actions on the NonStop tape system (TMFCOM, MEDIACOM, SCF) require a
user-id in the SUPER group, for example to add a TAPEVOLUME in DSM/TC or to
reject a MOUNT REQUEST.
In a regular security setup:
• SUPER.SUPER is used to install the BackPak sub-volume (see more in the
BackPak NonStop installation manual)
• A user-id in SUPER group must be used enter SCF, MEDIACOM and TMFCOM
commands.
• The same user-id in SUPER group is used to log-in the BackPak GUI that is
also an interface to MEDIACOM for regular MEDIACOM / TMFCM commands on
tape volumes and mount requests
• Automated actions (automatic load, cleanup of expired data and other pre-
defined actions based on the configuration) are executed under SUPER.SUPER
The installation INSTALL macro gives access of all files to the SUPER group.
How BackPak actions are initiated
Except for the statistics manipulation and reports, all BackPak actions are executed
by the Domain Manager, an instance of the BBSV program started by the Guardian
TCPIP LISTNER.
BBSV starts by default under SUPER.SUPER.
When the connection comes from the GUI, a full NonStop sign on is executed with
the user-id & password entered in the GUI sign on page before processing the
command.
All GUI users must sign on with a NonStop user-id in the NSK node running the
Domain Manager, and this user-id must have access to the BackPak NSK files. This is
the way access to BackPak functionality is controlled. Main GUI actions:
• Update the Domain configuration
• Add volumes in BackPak catalog and register them in DSM/TC or TMF
• Query the state of tape drives and mount requests
• Load a volume, or alter, reject a mount request
• Query the state of BackPak components, the state of storage
When the connection comes from a VTC server or from another NonStop process
(the EMS Extractor or a TACL BackPak macro), BBSV continues to run under
