• Make sure the moved files will allow full access to the account specified in the
Data Store configuration
When a path is added to the pool:
• This path is immediately active and will be considered as candidate for the
next file creation, move and restore operation.
Distribution of files among the paths of a pool
When a file is re-created to satisfy a mount for output request (i.e. executing a
NonStop backup), a selection algorithm is applied to choose one path from the Data
Store’s pool(s) as follow:
1- Paths from the Storage Pool will always be selected over paths from the
Spare Pool. A path in Spare pool can be selected only if no paths in the
Storage Pool is available or can satisfy the space requirement of the volume.
2- Under the same pool, all paths are considered part of same group and
selection criteria are applied between them.
a. Exception 1: Spare Pool under Storage Optimization for StoreOnce
NAS will considered all paths of the pool as individual group and will
select the first path available in the order they have been configured.
3- Under a same group of path, following selection criteria are apply in order:
a. Between two disks, a local disk is always preferred over a remote disk.
b. Between two disks, the disk with the less writing activities will be
always preferred.
c. Between two disks, the disk with more free space will be always
preferred.
d. Between two paths of the same disk, the path with the less writing
activities will be always preferred.
e. Between two paths of the same disk, the path with the less DAT files
on it will be always preferred (or the path with the less DAT files size
when the Storage Optimization is for StoreOnce NAS.)
It is possible to change behavior of some criteria by advance configuration:
• When the “Force local path” is checked in the Data Store advance properties,
only path pointing to local disk will be considered as candidate. If local path
enforcement is activate, load request may be rejected if there is not enough
space in any local disk – even if there is enough space on a remote one.
