BackBox H4.00 User Manual

Configuration
55 BackBox H4.00 User Manual
Only PASSWORD ACCESS GENERATE allows the TSM API to manage the automatic
TSM password renewal in when NODENAME/PASSWORD is specified in DSM.OPT.
In the configuration of the TSM Data Store of BackPak, the TSM user-id and
password must be omitted in when NODENAME/PASSWORD is specified in DSM.OPT.
Compression/ encryption
Compression and encryption by the TSM API are supported. However be aware that
performance may be degraded if backup encounter a bad disk sector and must issue
a back-space.
PARTIAL-RETRIEVE is a functionality that allows TSM to position a media on the
object being requested. It is however not supported when using compression or
encryption.
If the performance is preferred to the benefit of TSM API compression or encryption,
the TSM partial retrieve can be enabled in the VTC. Add the line below in the text file
C:\Program Files\Etinet\Virtual Tape Controller\BBSL.OPT:
PARTIAL_OBJECT_RETRIEVE=1
Notes:
BackBox is distributed with PARTIAL_OBJECT_RETRIEVE=0
PARTIAL_OBJECT_RETRIEVE=0 is required to restore from a tape image created
with PARTIAL_OBJECT_RETRIEVE=0
