BackBox configuration
The BackBox configuration, as created/updated by the BackBox web application, is
stored on the NonStop server in the installation sub-volume of the Domain Manager.
The configuration file name is BBSVCFG.
Supplementary configuration files are also kept on the installation sub-volume in
BBEXTCFG and BBSETUP files.
Catalog of virtual volumes
The catalog of virtual tape volumes is stored in two ENSCRIBE files: VOLUME and its
alternate index VOLUME0.
For the replication provided by BackPak, refer to the separate manual BackPak
Catalog Sync Option. This chapter shows manual alternatives to the BackPak
Catalog Sync Option.
A BackPak virtual tape volume must be registered in these files to allow it to be
automatically loaded and used by a tape application. To enable all BackPak features,
these files must be recovered to their last consistent state after the last prior virtual
tape load for output.
These catalog files are updated upon virtual tape volume creation, deletion and each
time a volume is loaded.
Each time a volume is loaded for output, the following important information is
updated:
• The volume timestamp.
• This is the 'Last load for output' time. It is used at load time to verify
the version of the virtual volume image that was found in the Data
Store.
• It is also used to select a file among several file occurrences that
might be present after some production hazard. For example, a disk
path to the Data Store went down and virtual volumes continue to
be written on other disk paths, when the failed path is later
recovered duplicate virtual tape volumes might be found.
• In order to load a virtual tape volume whose BackPak catalog entry
is not up-to-date, the timestamp checking must be disabled.
• The volume owner and Access authorizations. Note that this data is
also saved in the metadata part of the Data Store.
• For a Windows file Data Store, the volume Last Update Index Path.
