Basic protection of NonStop DSM/TC catalogs
• This applies when the BackPak Catalog Sync Option is not available.
Refer to the HP documentation, such as:
o "Disaster/Recovery of DSMTC catalogs" (Id: gcsc10456)
o "How to move a VOLCAT or FILECAT to another system" (Id:
1.0.1593289.2189680)
o “How to recover/restore the DSM/TC database to the original
node using TMF." (Id: 100.0.40060491.3470204)
Note: Some of these HP documents include the following restriction: "This solution
only applies to single node DSM/TC configuration without third party tape processing
integration".
This restriction does not apply to BackPak, since it is not "integrated" to the HP tape
systems, but rather communicates with this system through standard and public
interfaces.
Protection with the BackPak Disaster/Recovery option
• Configure and operate the BackPak catalog exports that will save the
new/updated entries of BackPak and DSM/TC catalogs, each time a
volume is created or re-written for a new backup. Refer to the
BackPak Disaster/Recovery manual.
• The saving of configuration files documented in “Basic protection for
the BackPak files” above is still required. TMF is still useful on
VOLUME* files.
Configuration data on each VT Controller
The very small configuration data inside a VTC usually only requires the recording of
the text files VTConfig.TXT, FCConfig.TXT, BBSL.OPT. In addition, the VTC stores the
network addresses of the domain(s) presented in the GUI “Domain Address
Configuration” page.
In most cases of recovery the addresses of the recovered environment (IP address,
WWN for FC emulation, number of SCSI or FC cards) will differ from the original
environment. So the saved files will provide only a starting point

TSM Data Stores
A TSM server itself provides high-end data protection features. Refer to the Tivoli
Storage Manager documentation for securing the data.
Note that the client is a TSM API client and therefore Backup Sets are not usable.
