Several hardware and software components are required in addition to the Expand-
over-ATM line-handler process to provide Expand-over-ATM connectivity. These
components are illustrated in Figure 9-1 and are explained in these subsections.
QIO Subsystem
QIO is a mechanism for transferring data between processes through a shared
memory segment. The QIO subsystem is preconfigured and started during the system
load sequence. The QIO subsystem must be started and running before Expand
line-handler processes can be started.
