11 System Configuration Guidelines (NS2200T and
NS2200ST Systems)
This section provides configuration guidelines for a NonStop NS2200T and NS2200ST system.
NonStop NS2200T and NS2200ST systems use a flexible modular architecture. Therefore, various
configurations of the system’s modular components are possible within configuration restrictions
stated in this section and Chapter 6 (page 103).

Dedicated Service LAN Cables
The NonStop NS2200 series systems use CAT 5e or CAT 6, unshielded twisted-pair Ethernet cables
for the internal dedicated service LAN and for connections between the VIO enclosure and the
application LAN equipment. For information about the dedicated service LAN for all the NonStop
NS2200 series systems, see Appendix A (page 164).
Cable Product IDs
For product IDs, see Appendix B (page 172).
DC-Powered Blade Element to VIO Enclosure
Fiber-optic cables provide communication between the ServerNet PCI adapter card in each blade
element and the ServerNet-to-processor ports on the VIO enclosure. The Ethernet ports on the VIO
enclosure and IP or Telco CLIM CGs provide high-speed Ethernet links to communication LANs.
Processor ID Assignment for the DC-Powered Blade Element
Each DC-powered blade element contains one processor element. The maintenance entity (ME)
firmware running in the DC-powered VIO enclosure assigns a number to each processor element
based on its connection from the blade element to the ServerNet-to-processor ports in slots 14.1
through 14.4 (processors 0 through 3). Therefore, fiber-optic cable connections from the blade
elements to the ServerNet-to-processor ports on the VIO enclosure determine the processor number
of each blade element.
SAS Ports to SAS CG Disk Enclosures
SAS CG disk enclosures can be connected directly to the two HBA SAS ports on a Storage CLIM
CG. For more information, see “Storage CLIM Devices” (page 89).
SAS Ports to SAS Tape Devices
SAS tape devices have one SAS port that can be directly connected to the HBA SAS port on a
Storage CLIM CG. Each SAS tape enclosure supports two tape drives. With a SAS tape drive
