SAS Ports to SAS Tape Devices
SAS tape devices have one SAS port that can be directly connected to the HBA SAS port on a
Storage CLIM CG. Each SAS tape enclosure supports two tape drives. With a SAS tape drive
connected to the system, you can use the BACKUP and RESTORE utilities to save data to and restore
data from tape.
Up to four SAS CG disk enclosures can be connected to the default and optional HBA SAS interfaces
on 1 pair of Storage CLIM CGs. Up to 2 pairs of Storage CLIM CGs are supported on the NS2400T
and NS2400ST systems.

The NonStop NS2400T and NS2400ST systems use the rack-mounted M8391-24x and M8392-24x
carrier-grade SAS disk enclosure, and its SAS disk drives are controlled via the SAS HBA in the
Storage CLIM T or Storage CLIM CG. The supported SAS HBA slot locations in the Storage CLIMs
are the same regardless of NS2400 series system type, although the power supply connections
and the type of SAS disk enclosure differ.

NOTE: All CLIMs use the Cluster I/O Protocols (CIP) subsystem. For more information about the
CIP subsystem, see the Cluster I/O Protocols (CIP) Configuration and Management Manual.
Disk enclosures connect to Storage CLIMs via SAS cables. For details on cable types, see Appendix B
(page 162).

The maximum number of logical unit numbers (LUNs) for each CLIM, including SAS disks and tapes
is 512. Each primary, backup, mirror and mirror backup path is counted in this maximum.
