NonStop NS2400 Series Planning Guide

VIO Enclosure Considerations (NS2400T and NS2400ST Systems)
These considerations apply to a NonStop NS2400T or NS2400ST system:
Only configurations with two VIO enclosures are supported.
The group number for the VIO enclosures is 100.
Two Ethernet connections, one in each VIO enclosure module, that connect to the maintenance
entity (ME) are necessary to enable the OSM Service Connection.
Ethernet to Networks for NS2400T and NS2400ST Systems
Depending on your configuration, Gigabit Ethernet connectivity is provided by the Ethernet interfaces
in one of these CLIMs or the Ethernet ports on the VIO enclosure:
“IP CLIM Ethernet Interfaces” (page 148)
“Telco CLIM Ethernet Interfaces” (page 148)
“VIO Enclosure (DC-Powered) Ethernet Ports” (page 148)
The Telco CLIM CG, IP CLIM CG, or the Ethernet ports on a DC-powered VIO enclosure provide
Ethernet connectivity between NonStop NS2400T and NS2400ST systems and Ethernet LANs.
The Ethernet port is an end node on the ServerNet and uses either fiber-optic or copper cable for
connectivity to user application LANs, as well as for the dedicated service LAN.
IP CLIM Ethernet Interfaces
The IP CLIM has two types of Ethernet configurations: IP CLIM Option 1 and IP CLIM Option 2,
which are the same as commercial Ethernet configurations IP CLIM Option 1 and IP CLIM Option
2 described in “IP CLuster I/O Module (CLIM) (Optional)” (page 26).
For illustrations of the IP CLIM Ethernet Interfaces, see the illustration for the commercial DL380 G6
IP CLIM in “IP CLuster I/O Module (CLIM) (Optional)” (page 26), in which the Ethernet Interfaces
are the same, although the power supplies differ.
All CLIMs use the Cluster I/O Protocols (CIP) subsystem. For more information about managing
your CLIMs using the CIP subsystem, see the Cluster I/O Protocols (CIP) Configuration and
Management Manual.
Telco CLIM Ethernet Interfaces
The Telco CLIM Ethernet interfaces are identical to the commercial IP CLIM Option 1 Ethernet
configuration. For information about the IP CLIM Option 1 configuration, see “IP CLuster I/O
Module (CLIM) (Optional)” (page 26).
For an illustration of the Telco CLIM Ethernet Interfaces, see the illustration for the commercial DL380
G6 Telco CLIM in “Telco CLuster I/O Module (CLIM) (Optional)” (page 29), in which the Ethernet
Interfaces are the same, although the power supplies differ.
All CLIMs use the Cluster I/O Protocols (CIP) subsystem. For more information about the CIP
subsystem, see the Cluster I/O Protocols (CIP) Configuration and Management Manual.
VIO Enclosure (DC-Powered) Ethernet Ports
For more information on the VIO Enclosure's Ethernet ports, see “VIO Enclosure Group-Module-Slot
Numbering (NS2400T and NS2400ST Systems)” (page 117).
For Ethernet cable specifications, illustrations, and details about connecting to the Ethernet ports
on the VIO enclosure, ask your HP service provider to refer to the Versatile I/O Manual.
