Ethernet Cables
Ethernet connections for a dedicated service LAN require CAT 5e or CAT 6 unshielded twisted-pair
(UTP) cables.
SWAN Concentrator Restrictions
NOTE: SWAN and SWAN 2 concentrators are only supported on the NonStop NS2400
commercial system. SWAN/SWAN 2 concentrators can be connected to an IP CLIM or the 10/100
Ethernet ports on a VIO enclosure with these restrictions:
• Isolate any ServerNet wide area networks (SWANs) on the system. The system must be
equipped with at least two LANs: one LAN for SWAN/SWAN 2 concentrators and one for
the dedicated service LAN.
• Most SWANs are configured redundantly using two or more subnets. Those subnets also must
be isolated from the dedicated service LAN.
• Do not connect SWANs on a subnet containing a DHCP.

Dedicated Service LAN Links With Two VIO Enclosures
You can implement up-system service LAN connectivity using the Ethernet ports on two VIO
enclosures. The values in this table show the identification for the Ethernet ports in slot 6B, port A
of both VIO enclosure modules (module 2 and module 3) and connected to the maintenance switch:

Dedicated Service LAN Links With IP CLIMs
You can implement up-system service LAN connectivity using IP CLIMs, if the system has at least
two IP CLIMs. The values in this table show the identification for the IP CLIMs in a NonStop NS2400
series system and connected to the maintenance switch. For example, in this table an IP CLIM
named N100241 is connected to slot 4, port 1 of the VIO enclosure located in group 100, module
2.
