NonStop NS2400 Series Planning Guide

4 System Installation Specifications for NonStop NS2400
Series Systems
This section provides specifications necessary for system installation planning for a NonStop
NS2400 commercial system.
NOTE: All specifications provided in this section assume that each enclosure in the modular
cabinet is fully populated. The maximum current for each AC service depends on the number and
type of enclosures installed in the modular cabinet. Power, weight, and heat loads are less when
enclosures are not fully populated.
Modular Cabinets
The modular cabinet is a EIA standard 19-inch, 36U or 42U, rack for mounting modular
components. The modular cabinet comes equipped with front and rear doors and includes a rear
extension that makes it deeper than some industry-standard racks. The PDUs described in “Power
Distribution for NonStop NS2400 Series Systems In Intelligent Racks” (page 52) are mounted
along the rear extension without occupying any U-space in the cabinet and are oriented inward,
facing the components within the rack.
NOTE: For instructions on grounding the modular cabinet G2 rack using the HP Rack Grounding
Kit (AF074A), ask your HP service provider to refer to the instructions in the HP 10000 G2 Series

Power Distribution for NonStop NS2400 Series Systems In Intelligent Racks
NOTE: This section describes power distribution for NS2400 series systems in the Intelligent
rack. For information on earlier power configurations used in the G2 rack, see “Power
Configurations for NonStop NS2400 Series Systems in G2 Racks” (page 171).
This subsection describes these power distribution topics:
“Power Distribution Units (PDUs)” (page 52)
AC Power Feeds” (page 60)
“PDU Strapping Configurations” (page 66)
“Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)” (page 67)
Power Distribution Units (PDUs)
Two PDU cores provide power for the rack. They mount at the lowest possible U location in the
rack. Both PDUs are mounted in the same U location—one mounted to the rear mounting rail and
one mounted to the front mounting rail.
There are two types of PDUs available for the Intelligent rack: Intelligent PDUs (iPDUs) and Modular
PDUs.
Both types of PDUs use a core and extension bar design. Each PDU core supplies power to extension
bars on the sides of the rack. The rear mounted PDU core connects to the extension bars on the
right rear side of the rack; the front mounted PDU core connects to the extension bars on the left
