FASTCNFG DEVICE Attributes for Lexmark Printers
POLLNUM = poll-number
specifies the number of times FASTPTCP polls the device at end-of-job waiting for
the device to become idle. For Lexmark printers, this value also specifies the
number of times FASTPTCP will retry waiting for the job-completion message. The
default value is 5.
When POLLNUM is exhausted, FASTPTCP reports error 100 to the Spooler
supervisor.
SHUTDOWNTO = n
specifies the time (in 10 millisecond units) that FASTPTCP should wait for a
session shutdown to complete. Values from 100 (1 second) to 8640000 (24 hours)
are allowed; the default value is 60000 (10 minutes). Generally, Lexmark printers
immediately complete session shutdown requests, so this parameter is rarely used.
TCPA-ADDR = ip-address
specifies the dotted decimal address of the TCP/IP controller indicated in the
process parameter TCP/IP-A. For the LEXMARK protocol, FASTPTCP must send
a return address for the printer to use in sending the job-completion message.
Under normal operations, FASTPTCP retrieves the correct address from the SPI
interface. This parameter provides a manual override and is usually only needed
for Parallel TCP/IP.
TCPB-ADDR = ip-address
specifies the dotted decimal address of the TCP/IP controller indicated with in
process p
arameter TCP/IP-B.
WAITTIME = wait-interval
specifies the time (in 10-millisecond
units) that FASTPTCP will wait for the job-
completion message to arrive; by default, the value is set to 10 minutes. When the
initial wait time expires, FASTPTCP queries the SNMP agent and retries, if
appropriate, POLLNUM times. For customers whose average print job is longer
than 200 pages, WAITTIME should be increased.
Note. POLLINT and POLLNUM determine the interval and number of times FASTPTCP
solicits device status. Under normal circumstances, you can rely on FASTPTCP default values
for controlling the communications session. However, because the Lexmark protocol can solicit
information from the printer, the POLLINT and POLLNUM parameters are available for
customizing communications behavior. You should use these attributes carefully, and only in
special network situations where congestion or other delays are known to be affecting
FASTPTCP performance, or where job length prevents end of job detection.
