Xerox Start Print Command Considerations
FASTPXNS always delivers a Spooler job to the Xerox printer if the Xerox spooler can
receive it. However, any Xerox condition that might affect the reception of subsequent
jobs is reported to the operator log so that the condition can be rectified before
spooling is inhibited.
If Xerox spooling cannot be achieved, FASTPXNS considers the Xerox printer to be in
a not ready state and informs the Spooler supervisor accordingly.
Xerox Start Print Command Considerations
By default, at the start of each job FASTPXNS issues a XNS Start Print command that
contains the following data:
1, ! Bulkdata Source = imm
2, ! Print Attributes = 2
0, 24, ! Object Name
expand-system-name ! 24 byte space filled
2, 4, "TNDM" ! Sender Name
3, ! Print Options = 3
3, 1, ! Copy Count = 1
7, -1, ! Hashed Password
9, 1 ! Double Sided = Yes
These parameters are passed as arguments to the Xerox PRINT Courier procedure.
For further information on these arguments, the reader should refer to the Xerox
publication, XNS Standards Printing Protocol XNSS118404.
These default PRINT arguments indicate:
•
The Expand System name that is to appear as the Sender Name of the jobs as
they are displayed on the Xerox Console.
•
The number of copies is one.
•
The document is to print double sided.
•
A Release Key (Hashed Password) is not required to release the job for printing.
You can elect to override this Start Print command by including a CONTROLBUF 100
command as the very first item in a FONT job. If the location to which the Xerox printer
is attached has a FONT job and the first item is a CONTROLBUF 100 request, then
FASTPXNS uses the data portion of the CONTROLBUF 100 request and sends it as a
Start Print command instead of the default data described above. If the FONT job does
not contain a CONTROLBUF 100 request as the very first item or no FONT job is
configured, then the default Start Print command is used.
The use of a CONTROLBUF 100 request within a FONT job to replace the default Start
Print command only works if the device is configured to print banners in the scope of
any FONT jobs (DEV PARM 15 = true), or if DEV is configured with HEADER OFF.
