Troubleshooting and Reporting Problems
Remember to double check that attributes not listed in your configuration do
not have unexpected default values.
•
IOP-related configuration values
Check that the values you have configured do not conflict with IOP-related
values. For example, TCP/IP values used by DNS and RESCONF.
•
Terminal server settings (FASTPTCP)
Check that the values you have configured do not conflict with characteristics
of the terminal server, such as port flow control, TELNET Listener, and special
AWAN settings. Some of the characteristics of terminal servers to which you
should pay special attention are discussed in AWAN Servers and Other
Terminal Servers and TCP/IP Direct and TCP/IP-TELNET Configuration
Considerations on page 3-4.
4. Enable the trace facility and capture a shadow trace file.
You capture a shadow trace file by using the trace facility. The trace facility is
described in detail in Using the Trace Facility on page 8-3. In general, your trace
data should be as small as possible to focus on the error, but large enough to
capture the entire sequence.
Note that for FASTPTCP, be sure to use the new unstructured file format.
5. If you cannot resolve the problem and require further assistance, gather the
following information before contacting your service provider:
•
Supporting documentation, which should include the following:
°
Any EMS and $0 messages received.
°
Notes describing, the precise line where the error occurred, the desired
result, and the actual result (as physically observed at the printer).
°
A copy of the FASTCNFG file (at least the DEVICE entry for the specified
device). If a FASTKCON file was used, use the FASTKCUT SAVE or LIST
command to create a FASTCNFG file or a listing file with the required
information. Because the FASTKCON file is a key-sequenced file, it cannot
be handled directly by normal file transfer methods unless PAK or TANZIP
is used to encapsulate the file.
°
The results of the following Spoolcom command:
DEV $device, STATUS DETAIL
°

PRINT $device, STATUS DETAIL
