TCP/IP to Lexmark printers with internal network adapter
Lexmark connected printers are printers attached to the network using the
Lexmark protocol. For these printers, FASTPTCP implements a job-completion
protocol for assured printing to a special TCP/IP port and uses UDP datagrams to
retrieve printer status from SNMP. The Lexmark protocol is run over a direct
TCP/IP connection and supports the Lexmark 5576/78 laser printers and other
Lexmark printers with an internal network adapter at firmware level x.52 or greater.
•
TCP/IP to Microplex connected printers
Microplex connected printers are printers that are attached to the network through
a Microplex M205/M206 print server. The print server has a parallel-port interface
and reports print-status information through an SNMP agent and the Microplex
MIB. Microplex connected printers include Printronix 552x/553x model printers with
built-in print servers and printers with external Microplex M205/M206 model print
servers.
•
TCP/IP to devices attached to Line Printer Daemons (LPDs)
LPD devices are typically spoolers running on UNIX systems that conform to RFC
1179. FASTPTCP establishes a connection and spools the job to the LPD spooler;
no direct communication with the printer itself is involved. Note that although
AWAN 3886 models support RFC 1179 protocol, the TCP-IP/TELNET protocol is
preferred.
