Managing Firmware in a NonStop Blade Complex
For more information on the NonStop advanced architecture (NSAA), see the NonStop
NS-Series Planning Guide.
Updating processor boot code is part of the Halted State Services (HSS) firmware,
which consists of HSS Main, Primitive State code (pState), SCSI firmware (ISP1040),
bootstrap (Diskboot), Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) firmware, and
PAL/SAL firmware (IPF Firmware.) HSS provides interfaces compatible with existing
NonStop interfaces for RELOAD and RCVDUMP.
You use an OSM guided procedure, launched by performing the Firmware Update
action from the Blade Complex, to update the firmware for each Blade Element in the
complex. To check current firmware versions to determine whether they are downrev
and require updating, locate the Blade Element Firmware object (located under the
Blade Element object) and check the Attributes tab.
On Integrity NonStop NS-series servers, the bootstrap code is part of the NonStop
Blade Element firmware and is, therefore, not on a disk. You update the disk bootstrap
code on all the bootable slices (that is, those that contain logical processor 0 and 1) by
using the Blade Complex Firmware Update procedure.
Table 1-3 lists the updatable NonStop Blade Complex firmware and the recommended
order for updating firmware through the guided procedure. (The Select Firmware
Modules for Shadow Image Update dialog box lists all the shadow firmware modules
for all the NonStop Blade Elements in the NonStop Blade Complex and allows you to
select the firmware modules to be updated):
