the first time or when starting, stopping, or removing an OSS subsystem. For setup
and fallback purposes, OSS EasySetup provides:
•
A journal file of all installation and configuration actions
•
A file that records the directory structure of the initial OSS file installation
•
A configuration file to partially automate restarting the OSS subsystem. This file
can be edited as needed when the configuration changes.
Starting with G06.23, OSS EasySetup no longer requires the process $NULL and the
installation of SPI template files.
OSS Large Files
The H06.06 RVU introduces OSS support for files larger than the previous 2 GB limit
(large files). The OSS file system and utilities are able to handle files up to 1 terabyte in
size.
In order to implement this capability, the OSS file system and utilities have been
modified to support format 2 files. All large files are created as Format 2; small files
(less than 2 GB) can be created as either Format 1 or Format 2. Format 1 files are
automatically converted to Format 2 when opened using the OSS 64-bit utilities or
Enscribe.
The ability to access large files can lead to problems if you install the H06.06 or later
RVU, then need to fall back to an earlier RVU. Format 2 files are not supported in pre-
H06.06 RVUs; if your applications have created new Format 2 files (large or small),
those files cannot be accessed on a pre-H06.06 system.
A DP2 fallback SPR, T9053AQM, is available. This fallback SPR is preinstalled in
H06.05 systems, so for those systems, no action is required. However, HP
recommends that you install the fallback SPR on pre-H06.05 systems before
upgrading to the H06.06 RVU in case you need to fall back:
•
If you are currently running the H06.03 RVU, consider upgrading to H06.05 before
upgrading to H06.06 so as to facilitate fallback if fallback becomes necessary.
•
If you are currently running the H06.04 RVU, HP recommends that you install the
fallback SPR before migrating to H06.06. If you do not install the fallback SPR
before migrating to H06.06, you must install it upon fallback to ensure a successful
fallback.
The installation of T9053AQM requires a system load.
Once the T9053AQM fallback is installed:
•
Format 2 OSS files smaller than the 2 GB limit are converted to Format 1 when
opened, so that the files remain usable. The file size cannot exceed the Format 1
limit.
•
Format 2 OSS files larger than the 2 GB limit are no longer accessible through the
OSS file system and utilities, and DP2 returns an error for any operation other than
