About This Document This compendium provides categorized information about new features, migration issues, and fallback considerations for H06.11. It also includes references and sources for migration planning. Supported Release Version Updates (RVUs) This manual supports the H06.11 RVU. Intended Audience This compendium is written for system managers or anyone who needs to understand how migrating to H06.
1 H06.11 Overview This chapter provides an overview of the H06.11 RVU. Major New Features Table 1-1 summarizes the main changes in H06.11. For descriptions of new features, see the appropriate chapters. Table 1-1 Summary of the H06.11 RVU Sections and Categories Major New Features Migration Alerts Fallback Alerts Chapter 2: Operating System • New parameter for OSS osh command Chapter 3: Application Development Products No new features in the H06.
— — — • For descriptions of Integrity NonStop NS-series hardware and the ServerNet SAN and how to plan and configure the site in preparation for installation of the system, see one of the following: — NonStop NS1000 Planning Guide — NonStop NS14000 Planning Guide — NonStop NS16000-Series Planning Guide — NonStop NS-Series Carrier Grade Server Manual • • For changes in H-series installation, see the H06.11 Software Installation and Upgrade Guide.
2 Operating System New Parameter for osh Command The -phd option is added to the osh command. The -phd parameter specifies that the child process uses the initial logon directory of the current effective (PAID) user ID of the parent process as configured on the HP node that runs the child process. If the -phd parameter is not specified, the child process uses the initial logon directory of the parent process as configured on the HP node that runs the child process.
3 Application Development Products The H06.11 RVU contains no new features for application development products.
4 Database and Transaction Processing Products The H06.11 RVU contains these new features for database and transaction processing products: • • • gSOAP 2.7.9 support NonStop SOAP utilities enhancements SQL/MX Agent and BR2 enhancements Open Source gSOAP Support gSOAP 2.7.9 has been ported to the NonStop operating system to conform to Open Source gSOAP.
5 Installation and Configuration Products The H06.11 RVU contains no new features for installation and configuration products.
6 Manageability Products The H06.11 RVU contains these new features for manageability products: • • • NonStop Secure Shell Server support Measure limits removal Safeguard enhancements NonStop Secure Shell Server Support NonStop Secure Shell (SSH) Server is a new product for H06.11. NonStop SSH Server provides secure communication between the MR-Win6530 terminal emulator (which replaces OutsideView) and the NonStop server.
Logging on without a password can be done only if the SUPER.SUPER user has given the program file that permission through Safeguard. This feature introduces these changes: • • • • • A new bit, bit #2, PRIV-LOGON, is added to the options parameter of the USER_AUTHENTICATE procedure call. A new Safeguard disk file attribute, PRIV-LOGON, is added for the executable disk files under Safeguard protection. The SAFECOM commands ADD, ALTER, INFO, SET, and SHOW support the new PRIV-LOGON disk file attribute.
The output from these commands is retained in a file named SAFEVALU located in $SYSTEM.SAFE. 4. To restore the original settings after migrating to the new version, run the SAFEVALU OBEY file created in step 3 in SAFECOM. For more information, see Chapter 10 of the Safeguard Administrator's Manual.
7 Hardware Products HP Integrity NonStop NS16200 Server The HP Integrity NonStop NS16200 server is introduced in the H06.11.02 RVU. It provides the same functionality as a NonStop NS16000 server with improved system performance. The NonStop NS16200 server includes standard Intel Itanium microprocessors. For more information, see the NonStop NS16000-Series Planning Guide. Migration The NonStop NS16200 server is introduced and supported at the H06.11.02 and later RVUs.
8 Networking Products TCP/IP Security Enhancement A new option is provided to cause XDMCPreconfigure to deny requests from a remote host. When this feature is enabled, XDMCPreconfigure does not respond to requests from a remote host. This new feature works by setting up filters that deny ICMP packets of type 17 (ICMP_MASKREQ). This feature enhances the security of the TCP/IPv6 subsystem. The new security feature is disabled by default (that is, remote requests are accepted).
A Sources for Migration Assistance and Information This appendix describes the assistance HP provides when problems arise during the migration and testing process. HP also provides services that can help you develop a migration plan and implement migration tasks. Most migration and release documentation is available through the HP NonStop Technical Library (NTL).
• Outage Prevention Notifications, Hotstuff messages, and Support Notes • Prerequisites for an SPR • Available SUTs and Independent Products After researching available SPRs, you can download those you consider appropriate for your systems directly to your workstation, or you can request tape delivery.
