H06.11 Software Installation and Upgrade Guide
S-series servers. See “Managing Microcode and Firmware for NonStop NS-Series Servers”
(page 25) for detailed information on updating firmware.
• The RCVDUMP program has two new parameters for H-series systems only, SLICE sliceId
and PARALLEL. See the TACL Reference Manual for more information on syntax and usage.
• For H-series systems only, RELOAD has a new option OMITSLICE. The RELOAD command
also includes the option NOPRIME, which is supported on both G-series and H-series systems.
New error messages for RCVDUMP and RELOAD can be found in the TACL Reference
Manual, Appendix B. Syntax summaries for RCVDUMP and RELOAD can be found in
Appendix A.
Investigating an H-Series RVU
Several resources are available to help you plan for installing an H-series RVU:
• Product softdocs and the README file.
• The Release Version Update Compendium provides highlights of the new products and features
for each H-series RVU. It also discusses the effect these changes have on installation and
configuration, operations and management, data files, applications, and networks.
• The Interactive Upgrade Guide (IUG) simplifies the planning of software and hardware for
RVUs. Select the products and RVUs you use, and the Interactive Upgrade Guide
automatically displays customized migration instructions and lists new features. Starting
in G06.25, the Interactive Upgrade Guide 2 is available. You can select either Interactive
Upgrade Guide from NTL.
• The Managing Software Changes manual explains TRM2000 and provides information about
system migration and installation processes, software product revision (SPR) analysis, and
resources for investigating new RVUs and SPRs.
• Scout for NonStop Servers is a Web-based SPR analysis and delivery tool. You can access
Scout through HP NonStop eServices Portal at
https://onepoint.nonstop.compaq.com/buildpage.asp. Online help for using Scout is available
on the Scout Web site.
• The DSM/SCM Planner Interface provides a facility for viewing and printing softdocs and
release documents on the SUT after you receive new software into the archive. For more
information, see the DSM/SCM User’s Guide.
System Console Requirements
A system console is an HP-approved personal computer used to run maintenance and diagnostic
software for NonStop S-series and Integrity NonStop NS-series servers. New system consoles
run either Windows XP Professional with service pack 2 or Microsoft Windows Server 2003 with
service pack 2, and are preconfigured with the required HP and third-party software, including
OSM. The DSM/SCM client is also installed and configured.
Updating System Consoles (Optional) S7X-SWV2/HNSC-SWV2, Update 1
If you have ordered new system consoles for H06.11, the latest client-side software is already
installed. If not, the H06.11 RVU requires the HP NonStop System Console (NSC) Installer DVD,
S7X-SWV2/HNSC-SWV2, Update 1. See the NonStop System Console Installer Guide for detailed
information on installing the system console software. If you are using a PC other than a system
console for DSM/SCM tasks, you must download the DSM/SCM client and install it separately
(it is not included on the installer DVD).
If you are migrating a G-series legacy system console to use OSM, certain client-side system
requirements must be met. See the NonStop System Console Installer Guide and the OSM Migration
and Configuration Guide for PC system requirements and information on migrating to OSM.
