About This Document This compendium provides categorized information about new features, migration issues, and fallback considerations for H06.12. It also includes references and sources for migration planning. Supported Release Version Updates (RVUs) This manual supports the H06.12 RVU. Intended Audience This compendium is written for system managers or anyone who needs to understand how migrating to H06.
1 H06.12 Overview This chapter provides an overview of the H06.12 RVU. Major New Features Table 1-1 summarizes the main changes in H06.12. For descriptions of new features, see the appropriate chapters. Table 1-1 Summary of the H06.12 RVU Sections and Categories Major New Features Chapter 2: Operating System Tapeprocess enhancement Chapter 3: Application Development Products No new features in the H06.12 RVU Chapter 4: Database and Transaction Processing Products No new features in the H06.
• For an H-series overview, see Section 1 of the H06.
2 Operating System Tapeprocess Enhancement Tapeprocess no longer forcibly brings down a tape device if the process encounters an error while doing an inquiry on the tape device. This feature prevents unnecessary application disruptions.
3 Application Development Products The H06.12 RVU contains no new features for application development products.
4 Database and Transaction Processing Products The H06.12 RVU contains no new features for database and transaction processing products.
5 Installation and Configuration Products The H06.12 RVU contains no new features for installation and configuration products.
6 Manageability Products The H06.12 RVU contains new features for these manageability products: • • • Storage Server Interface (SSI) Safeguard OSM Storage Server Interface (SSI) The Storage Server Interface (SSI) provides a new optional PARAM environment variable, SSI^CLIENT^PORT^NUM, to specify a single port ID. SSI uses this Port ID to connect to the Communications Server Interface (CSI) on a SUN server.
This command needs to be used only if the system has new NS16200 hardware.
7 Hardware Products HP Integrity NonStop NS16200 Server The HP Integrity NonStop NS16200 server is introduced in the H06.11.02 RVU. It provides the same functionality as a NonStop NS16000 server with improved system performance. The NonStop NS16200 server includes standard Intel Itanium microprocessors. For more information, see the NonStop NS16000-Series Planning Guide. Migration The NonStop NS16200 server is introduced and supported at the H06.11.02 and later RVUs.
Maximum embedded I/O connectivity per VIO enclosure 4 embedded Fibre Channel ports for FCDMs, tape, or ESS connections, 4 embedded copper Ethernet ports Maximum optional expansion I/O connectivity per VIO 4 optional ESS (Fibre Channel) ports OR 4 optional enclosure Ethernet ports (copper/optical) M8201 Fibre Channel to SCSI router Supported Rackmounted system console Required Enterprise Storage System (ESS) Supported ServerNet cluster Sswitch Not supported NonStop S-series I/O Not supported Encl
8 Networking Products Telserv Limits Improvement The maximum number of Telnet sessions is increased from 256 to 512. This enhancement reduces the usage of LAN ports as well as the number of processes running on the system.
A Sources for Migration Assistance and Information This appendix describes the assistance HP provides when problems arise during the migration and testing process. HP also provides services that can help you develop a migration plan and implement migration tasks. Most migration and release documentation is available through the HP NonStop Technical Library (NTL).
• Outage Prevention Notifications, Hotstuff messages, and Support Notes • Prerequisites for an SPR • Available SUTs and Independent Products After researching available SPRs, you can download those you consider appropriate for your systems directly to your workstation, or you can request tape delivery.
