H06.12 Release Version Update Compendium
6 Manageability Products
The H06.12 RVU contains new features for these manageability products:
• Storage Server Interface (SSI)
• Safeguard
• OSM
Storage Server Interface (SSI)
The Storage Server Interface (SSI) provides a new optional PARAM environment variable,
SSI^CLIENT^PORT^NUM, to specify a single port ID. SSI uses this Port ID to connect to the
Communications Server Interface (CSI) on a SUN server. This feature improves the security
compliance and SOX compliance for systems that have a firewall installed.
If this variable is not specified, SSI selects a random port number for communication, per previous
behavior.
Safeguard
Safeguard and Standard Security provide these enhancements:
• A new attribute, AUDITCLEARONPURGE, is provided. This attribute enables you to control
the setting of the CLEARONPURGE flag when creating new audit files. Previously, the
CLEARONPURGE flag was set unconditionally to ON, which triggered disk writes to zero
out the contents whenever an audit file was purged. That write activity had the potential to
cause system performance to temporarily degrade. The ability to set the CLEARONPURGE
flag to OFF for new audit files will help avoid these intermittent system delays.
In addition, a new command line argument is provided for the SAFECOM ALTER/INFO
AUDIT POOL commands, to set or clear and display the AUDITCLEARONPURGE attribute
for newly created audit files.
• Safeguard can now audit the TACL LOGOFF/EXIT events. Previously, only the TACL
LOGON events were audited. This feature makes it easier view the TACL LOGOFF/EXIT
audit events. The new feature can help you include intrusion-detection as part of your
security policies.
Open System Management (OSM) Advanced Firmware Update
OSM now has an advanced firmware update feature for Integrity NonStop NS16200 and later
systems that simplifies firmware update procedures.
Previously, there was one file per firmware object, and these files were delivered as part of the
SUT. When an uprev firmware file was placed on the SUT, OSM would flag the system as needing
a firmware update. With the introduction of the Integrity NonStop NS16200, new firmware is
on the SUT. Ordinarily, this would have caused OSM to flag the system for firmware update
regardless of whether the new hardware was on the system. The advanced firmware update
feature addresses this problem.
OSM can now select among multiple firmware files for each firmware object. OSM Service
Application provides a function, “Initialize Firmware Files”, to initialize the firmware file names
based on the hardware configuration. You can use this action to specify the hardware configuration
of the system.
