H06.12 Software Installation and Upgrade Guide

Migration Considerations
If a Maintenance Switch or UPS has been configured in a prior version of OSM, the OSM Access
Community Names will not be available. OSM will attempt to access it with the default values
of “public” for read access and “private” for Write access. If these are not the values with which
the device has been configured, the device will be displayed as “Down.” To recover, do one of
the following:
Stop monitoring, and restart monitoring with the correct values.
Change the values to the defaults by opening a Telnet session to the device and rediscovering
the device in OSM.
For more information and instructions, see Appendix E of the OSM Migration and Configuration
Guide.
OSS Large Files
Starting with the H06.06 RVU, OSS files larger than the previous 2 GB limit (large files) are
supported. The OSS file system and utilities are able to handle file sizes up to 1 terabyte.
To implement this capability, the OSS file system and utilities are modified to support Format
2 files (previously, all files were created as Format 1). All large files are created as Format 2; small
files (less than 2 GB) can be created as either Format 1 or Format 2. Format 1 files are automatically
converted to Format 2 when opened using the OSS 64-bit utilities or Enscribe.
The ability to access large files can lead to problems if you install the H06.06 or later RVU, then
need to fall back to an earlier RVU. Format 2 files are not supported in pre-H06.06 RVUs; if your
applications have created new Format 2 files (large or small), those files cannot be accessed on
a pre-H06.06 system. Following are descriptions of recommended fallback SPRs. For complete
details on this issue, see Support Note S06056A, OSS Files Larger Than 2 GB for H-Series RVUs.
DP2
A DP2 fallback SPR, T9053AQM, is available. This fallback SPR is preinstalled in H06.05 systems,
so for those systems, no action is required. You can install the fallback SPR on systems running
H06.03 or H06.04, as long as all the prerequisites are met:
If you are currently running the H06.03 RVU, consider upgrading to H06.05 before upgrading
to H06.12 so as to facilitate fallback if fallback becomes necessary.
If you are currently running the H06.04 RVU, HP strongly recommends that you install the
fallback SPR before migrating to H06.12. If you do not install the fallback SPR before migrating
to H06.12, you must install it during fallback to ensure a successful fallback.
The installation of T9053AQM requires a system load.
WARNING! If you do not install the DP2 fallback SPR before migrating to H06.12 and a
fallback becomes necessary, you must perform a system load on the prior RVU, and then,
before using any OSS files, you must install and coldload to the DP2 SPR.
Falling back to H06.03 is not supported.
Once the T9053AQM fallback SPR is installed:
Format 2 OSS files smaller than the 2 GB limit are converted to Format 1 when opened, so
that the files remain usable. The file size cannot exceed the Format 1 limit.
Format 2 OSS files larger than the 2 GB limit are no longer accessible through the OSS file
system and utilities, and DP2 returns an error for any operation other than purging the files.
However, the files can be accessed from the Guardian environment by using Enscribe.
Note that files smaller than 2 GB that were converted to Format 2 on H06.06 or later appear
initially to most utilities (except DSAP/DCOM T9543H01^ABH) as zero-size Format 2 files
