About This Document This compendium provides categorized information about new features, migration issues, and fallback considerations for H06.13. It also includes references and sources for migration planning. Supported Release Version Updates (RVUs) This manual supports the H06.13 RVU. Intended Audience This compendium is written for system managers or anyone who needs to understand how migrating to H06.
1 H06.13 Overview This chapter provides an overview of the H06.13 RVU. Major New Features Table 1-1 summarizes the main changes in H06.13. For descriptions of new features, see the appropriate chapters. Table 1-1 Summary of the H06.13 RVU Sections and Categories Major New Features Chapter 2: Operating System No new features in the H06.
• • • For descriptions of Integrity NonStop NS-series hardware and the ServerNet SAN and how to plan and configure the site in preparation for installation of the system, see one of the following: — NonStop NS1000 Planning Guide — NonStop NS1200 Planning Guide — NonStop NS14000-Series Planning Guide — NonStop NS16000-Series Planning Guide — NonStop NS-Series Carrier Grade Server Manual • • For changes in H-series installation, see the H06.13 Software Installation and Upgrade Guide.
2 Operating System The H06.13 RVU contains no new features for operating system products.
3 Application Development Products Native Inspect Enhancements The H06.13 RVU revision of Native Inspect includes the following changes and additions: • • • • The Native Inspect application base is now derived from version 5.5 of the HP WDB (Wildebeest) command-line debugger. Documentation changes: — All information changes for the RVUs from H06.08 to H06.12 that were previously provided in Native Inspect softdocs are included in this release.
4 Database and Transaction Processing Products The H06.13 RVU contains new features for these database and transaction processing products: • SQL/MX • SQL/MP • TMF • TS/MP • OSS ODBC/MX SQL/MX DISPLAY USE OF Enhancements The DISPLAY USE OF command is enhanced to: • • Display the source file from which a particular module is compiled. Display modules that are invalid as a result of DDL changes to any particular object.
Option to Suppress Automatic Transaction Starting Currently, NonStop SQL/MX will automatically start a transaction if the transaction is not started by the application. A new SET TRANSACTION option is provided that suppresses this automatic starting of a transaction. The new option is SET TRANSACTION AUTOBEGIN OFF. SQL/MP New DEFINES • • The DEFINE for COMMIT WORK AUDITONLY behavior, if set, releases locks on audited objects and hold locks on non-audited objects.
5 Installation and Configuration Products The H06.13 RVU contains no new features for installation and configuration products.
6 Manageability Products New Storage Subsystem Option to Enable Fast Cache Bulk Writes A new attribute, FASTBULKWRITE, is supported. FASTBULKWRITE specifies whether or not the system is to use Fast Cache Bulk Writes. FASTBULKWRITE applies only to disks in a Fibre Channel Disk Module (FCDM) or to ESS disks. For unstructured files, FASTBULKWRITE improves throughput and concurrency for FUP DUP type operations.
7 Hardware Products The H06.13 RVU contains new features for these hardware products: • • • HP Integrity NonStop NS14200 server V4SE and V8SE for Gigabit Ethernet connections Labeled tape enhancements HP Integrity NonStop NS14200 Server The HP NonStop NS14200 server is introduced in the H06.13 RVU. It provides the equivalent functionality of a NonStop NS14000 server with improved system performance. The NonStop NS14200 includes standard Intel Itanium microprocessors.
the other enclosure in the pair connects to the Y-fabric p-switch. The PIC slot used must be the same for both p-switches, and a V4SECG or V8SECG enclosure requires all four of the ports on a PIC. NOTE: Each pair of V4SECG or V8SECG enclosures require all four ports on a processor switch PIC. Therefore, for each pair of V4SECG or V8SECG enclosures installed, the maximum number of NonStop S-series I/O enclosures supported on the system is reduced by four.
8 Networking Products The H06.13 RVU contains no new features for networking products.
A Sources for Migration Assistance and Information This appendix describes the assistance HP provides when problems arise during the migration and testing process. HP also provides services that can help you develop a migration plan and implement migration tasks. Most migration and release documentation is available through the HP NonStop Technical Library (NTL).
