1 H06.16 Overview This chapter provides an overview of the H06.16 RVU. Major New Features Table 1-1 summarizes the main changes in H06.16. For descriptions of new features, see the appropriate chapters. 2 Operating System AF_UNIX Release 2 The AF_UNIX protocol family is used for interprocess communication within a single system. AF_UNIX Release 2 provides a redesigned implementation of the socket-based interface to this protocol family. This new design provides a simpler, more reliable implementation that also provides better compatibility with open systems, backward compatibility with the previous implementation, and better performance.
The $ZLSnn processes are started automatically when the processors start; do not add them to any startup or shutdown scripts. WARNING! Processes having names of the form $ZLSnn are reserved for use by HP. Be sure to rename any OSS Name Server processes having names of this form before installing the new RVU. Failure to do so can result in internal errors and will require assistance from your service provider.
cron and inetd Can Be Configured as Persistent Processes You can configure cron and inetd as persistent processes. By specifying the -f option, you can configure cron and inetd to execute in the foreground. For more information, see the cron(8) and inetd(8) reference pages either online or in the Open System Services System Calls Reference Manual.
3 Application Development Products The H06.16 RVU contains no new features for application development products.
4 Database and Transaction Processing Products SQL/MP Support for Increasing Catalog Extents The CREATE CATALOG command is enhanced to include two new options: EXTENT and MAXEXTENTS. These options do the following: • • EXTENT specifies the primary and secondary extent sizes for the catalog tables and indexes. MAXEXTENTS specifies the maximum allowed number of extents for the catalog tables and indexes.
5 Installation and Configuration Products The H06.16 RVU contains no new features for installation and configuration products.
6 Manageability Products Safeguard Enhancements Enhanced OBJECT-TEXT-DESCRIPTION Field Support Safeguard now supports the OBJECT-TEXT-DESCRIPTION field in the authentication records of the following objects: • Disk files • Disk volumes • Disk subvolumes • Devices • Subdevices • Processes • Objecttype • Sec-Group The description field of an authorization record can be used to store additional information about objects. This information can be used in the management of the object authorization record.
7 Hardware Products Internet Protocol CLuster I/O Module (IP CLIM) Support The Internet Protocol (IP) CLuster I/O Module (CLIM) is a new, rack-mounted server that provides Ethernet connectivity between a NonStop host system running the Cluster I/O Protocols (CIP) subsystem and networks (private and public). For H06.16, the IP CLIM is supported on NonStop NS16000 series servers.
8 Networking Products Cluster I/O Protocols (CIP) Support Cluster I/O Protocols (CIP) is a new I/O subsystem supported on H06.16 for NonStop NS16000 series servers. CIP has a new Subsystem Control Facility (SCF) product module as well as TACL command line interfaces that together provide management interfaces for I/O protocol configuration. In addition, a new product, NonStop I/O Essentials, provides a GUI for CIP management.
A Sources for Migration Assistance and Information This appendix describes the assistance HP provides when problems arise during the migration and testing process. HP also provides services that can help you develop a migration plan and implement migration tasks. Most migration and release documentation is available through the HP NonStop Technical Library (NTL).
