About This Document This compendium provides categorized information about new features, migration issues, and fallback considerations for H06.17. It also includes references and sources for migration planning. Supported Release Version Updates (RVUs) This manual supports the H06.17 RVU only. Intended Audience This compendium is written for system managers or anyone who needs to understand how migrating to H06.

1 H06.17 Overview This chapter provides an overview of the H06.17 RVU. Major New Features Table 1-1 summarizes the main changes in H06.17. For descriptions of new features, see the appropriate chapters. Table 1-1 Summary of the H06.
• • • • • • • • 10 specific modules and program components that require changes for migration to an H-series RVU. For the physical, electrical, and environmental specifications used by HP professional service providers for site preparation, see the planning guide for the server you running. Planning guides can be found in the HP NonStop Technical Library (NTL). For an H-series overview, see Section 1 of the H06.
2 Operating System Binary Semaphore Enhancements • • • • A new procedure call, BINSEM_ISMINE, is introduced. The BINSEM_ISMINE_ procedure allows a process to determine whether it owns the designated semaphore. This procedure call is supported only on systems running H06.13 and later H-series RVUs. The BINSEM_CREATE_ and BINSEM_OPEN_ procedures have increased the maximum limit for per process open user semaphores from 64 to 8192. The maximum limit for user semaphores per processor is increased to 65536.
3 Application Development Products Native Inspect Supports New Commands and Options Native Inspect supports these new commands and options: • set optimized-loc-print n • define command-name • document command-name • show user [command-name] The set optimized-loc-print n command enables the user to control the amount of information given about variable locations in programs compiled at higher optimization levels. The other commands are new user-defined commands.
4 Database and Transaction Processing Products TMF 3.6 Enhancements TMF 3.6 supports these new features for the H06.17 RVU: • • • • The NOBACKOUT parameter of the TMFCOM ABORT TRANSACTION command aborts transactions without a backout process for that transaction, thereby eliminating the time required to abort a transaction. The impact of using this parameter depends on the state of the transaction when the command is executed.
5 Installation and Configuration Products The H06.17 RVU contains no new features for installation and configuration products.
6 Manageability Products OSM Enhancements OSM Service Connection OSM Service Connection introduces a new guided procedure, the OSM Data Sanitization Guided Procedure, which provides a simple and secure method for erasing all data from disk drives that are to be retired from service. The procedure can be used to sanitize any SCSI, FC, SAS, or CLIM-attached disks. OSM Low-Level Link The OSM Low-Level Link CLIM preparation support is enhanced to include INS Software Update, which is used for Telco CLIMs only.
7 Hardware Products CLuster I/O Module (CLIM) Supported on NonStop NS5000 Server The CLuster I/O Module (CLIM), including IP CLIM CG, Storage CLIM CG, and Telco CLIM CG, is now supported on the NonStop NS5000CG and NonStop NS5000T systems.
8 Networking Products Cluster I/O Protocols (CIP) Supports New Features Cluster I/O Protocols (CIP) introduces several new features for the H06.17 RVU: • New options and features for climconfig commands: — New -autonegotiation parameter for the climconfig interface -modify command enables/disables autonegotiation for Ethernet interfaces. — New fields in the climconfig interface -info display. — New option, -endpoint, for the climconfig tunnel -interface command specifies the address of the tunnel endpoint.
A Sources for Migration Assistance and Information This appendix describes the assistance HP provides when problems arise during the migration and testing process. HP also provides services that can help you develop a migration plan and implement migration tasks. Most migration and release documentation is available through the HP NonStop Technical Library (NTL).
• Outage Prevention Notifications, Hotstuff messages, and Support Notes • Prerequisites for an SPR • Available SUTs and Independent Products After researching available SPRs, you can download those you consider appropriate for your systems directly to your workstation, or you can request tape delivery.
