BladeCluster Solution Supports Additional Long Distance Options
The BladeCluster Solution has been enhanced to support inter-zone distances up to 65 km in a
BladeCluster multi-zone topology. When BladeCluster inter-zone distances are greater than 25
km, all the NonStop NS16000 series systems that are connected to this topology must be running
H06.23 and later RVUs.
Migration Considerations
• Migration is available as a set of SPRs that implement the latest BladeCluster Solution
functionality. These SPRs ship with the H06.23 RVU.
• In a single-zone or multi-zone BladeCluster Solution with inter-zone distances up to 25 Km,
these SPRs can be installed on top of H06.14 or later RVUs without requiring a system load.
• In a multi-zone BladeCluster Solution with inter-zone distances greater than 25 Km, all the
NonStop NS16000 series systems that are connected to this topology must be running H06.23
and later RVUs.
Fallback Considerations
If there is a need to fall back to a previous RVU after installing a BladeCluster Solution topology
and the node must remain connected to that topology, the following considerations apply:
• Fallback is only supported for a single-zone or multi-zone BladeCluster Solution with inter-zone
distances up to 25 Km.
• A minimum fallback RVU of H06.14 is required for the BladeCluster Solution topology.
• Certain SPRs must also be installed on top of the fallback RVU. For more information on these
software requirements, refer to the BladeCluster Solution Manual.
KEEPALIVE Option for FTP Server and Client
When a remote client connects to FTPSERV on a NonStop system and initiates transfer of large
files, the control connection remains idle as the data is transferred through the data connection.
This idle state causes termination of the control connection by the load balancer application. To
prevent the control connection from being terminated, PORTCONF has been enhanced with an
ALIVE ON option. This option enables FTPSERV to send KEEPALIVE probes on the control connection
until the data transfer is complete. To set this feature, specify the ALIVE ON option in the PORTCONF
file while starting the FTP server. To enable the FTP client to use this feature, specify the “-k” option
in the RUN command of the FTP client.
