LTO 5 Tape Drive
This release introduces the LTO 5 family of NonStop physical tape drives and new Media Manager
Software. LTO 5 drives replace the current LTO 4 product line, and include Automatic Cartridge
Loaders (ACL), Table Top Single Play Manual Load, and Library models. The new Entry Level Media
Manager (ELMM) NonStop host-based software allows the LTO 5 ACL versions (M8701A and
M8702A) to be converted to Random Access Small (24 cartridge) Libraries:
M8701A 2U ACL RM, 24 Cart
M8702A 2U ACL TT, 24 Cart
M8705A LTO5 HH SAS TT (Manual Load)
M8706A LTO5, MRL50 (SL500) Library Drive
M8707A LTO5, SL3000 (Replaced L700) Library Drive
M8708A LTO5, SL8500 Library Drive
HSF03 Entry Level Media Manager Software
LTO 5 drives require the H06.25 or later H-series RVU.

Migration Considerations
LTO 5 Tape Drives can read from LTO 3, LTO 4, and LTO 5 Tape Cartridges. LTO 5 Tape Drives
can write to LTO 4 and LTO 5 Tape Cartridges. Care in media selection must be exercised when
moving to new LTO 5 Tape Drives.
Fallback Considerations
LTO 5 drives require the H06.25 or later H-series RVU. If you must fall back to an earlier RVU, you
cannot use LTO 5 drives.
