H06.27 Release Version Update Compendium

2 Operating System
OSS Core Utilities
The Open System Services (OSS) Core Utilities product (T1202 version H01AAB) introduces the
following new features:
GNU Diffutils, consisting of: cmp, diff, diff3, and sdiff.
GNU troff (groff) utilities.
GNU make utility.
GNU patch utility.
xinetd, a super-server daemon.
prngd, a pseudo random number generator daemon.
For information about the OSS Core Utilities, see the OSS Core Utilities User Commands appendix
in the Open System Services User’s Guide.
Migration Considerations
The OSS Core Utilities (T1202) can coexist with the Open System Services utilities (OSSUTIL T8626).
For detailed usage considerations, see the OSS Core Utilities User Commands appendix in the
Open System Services User’s Guide.
Fallback Considerations
To retain any customization done for system-wide or user-specific configuration files pertaining to
various utilities, back up the configuration files before falling back to an earlier RVU and then
restore them.
The OSS Core Utilities (T1202) product is not available in RVUs prior to H06.25.
OSS User Management Utilities
A suite of user management utilities are provided for creating, modifying, and deleting user accounts
from the Open System Services (OSS) environment. The new OSS commands are: useradd,
usermod, userdel, and newusers.
Migration Considerations
None. For information about these OSS user management utilities, see the User Management Tools
on OSS section in the Open System Services Management and Operations Guide.
Fallback Considerations
These user management utilities are not available for systems running H06.26 or earlier H-series
RVUs.
If no new user management utilities are used after migrating to H06.27, there are no fallback
considerations.
If OSS user management utilities are used in H06.27 and a fallback to an H06.26 or earlier
H-series release is required:
The user management actions performed using those utilities will persist after fallback.
Safeguard or standard security utilities must be used for subsequent user management.
