Use the OSM Service Connection to check and (if necessary) update the ME FPGA for all processor
switches, IOAMs, and VIO modules just as you did when updating ME firmware, but choose the
ME FPGA Update action instead.

within the application.
Managing NonStop Blade Complex Firmware
Different server types have different blade firmware requirements. This section lists the minimum
required blade firmware versions for each type of server.
For more information on architecture types or on the individual server types, refer to the NonStop
NSxxxx Planning Guide for your server. For Carrier Grade systems, your service provider can
refer to the NonStop NS-Series Carrier Grade Server Manual.
For NS14000 series and NonStop 16000 series systems, blade firmware is updated through an
OSM guided procedure, launched by performing the Firmware Update action on the Blade Complex
object. For more information, see the online help available with the guided procedure.
NOTE: For NS14200 and mixed NS14000/NS14200 systems, and NS16200 and mixed
NS16000/NS16200 systems: You must perform the OSM Initialize Default Firmware File Names
action.
To perform the Initialize Default Firmware File Names: When prompted, be sure you select the
correct hardware platform from the Configuration list. For more information, see the hardware
installation manual or upgrade procedures associated with your system in the Support and Services
Library in NTL.
While this action is not normally required for NS14000 and NS16000 systems, (OSM displays
the proper firmware versions by default), you might be directed by the GNSC to use the action
and choose Recommended Fix Firmware File Set from the list of options. This causes OSM to show
the latest blade firmware available on the SUT as the Default File Version to be used for a firmware
update. This may be necessary to incorporate a recent fix not in the original minimum base firmware
for your server type.
For details specific to managing firmware in an NS1000, NS1200, NS3000, or NS5000 system,
see the upgrade procedures associated with your system in the Support and Services Library in
NTL.
NOTE: In TACL commands and event messages, you might see:
The term slice, which is equivalent to the term NonStop Blade Element (NSBE).
The term processor complex, which is equivalent to the term NonStop Blade Complex (NSBC)
The OSM GUI now displays the newer Blade Complex and Blade Element terminology.
The following sections dealing with blade complex firmware apply to NS14000 series and
NS16000 series systems only. For other systems, your support provider can see the following
sections in the Updating Blade Element Firmware in an NS2000, NS2000T, NS2000ST, NS1200
or NS1000 Server service procedure located in the Support and Service section of the NonStop
Technical Library:
Use the procedure described in the “Updating Blade Element Firmware in an NS2000,
NS2000T, NS2000ST, or NS1200 Server” section to update firmware on an NS3000AC
server.
Use the procedure described in the “Updating Blade Element Firmware in an NS1000 Server
section to update firmware on an NS5000T or NS5000CG server. Note, however, that
locations of buttons and LEDs shown in the illustrations differ for the NS5000T/NS5000CG.
