Measure
Changes for CLuster I/O Module (CLIM)
Beginning with the J06.04 RVU, Measure monitors CLuster I/O Modules (CLIMs). A CLIM is a
rack-mounted device that provides the physical interfaces to I/O devices and networks and
connects to the NonStop system by means of two plug-in cards (PICs) that interface to the
ServerNet fabric of the NonStop server. CLIMs are used for networking or storage.
To monitor CLIMs, Measure provides new SERVERNET-entity node classes: CLMI for network,
CLMS for storage, CLMO for Carrier Grade systems, and CLIM as a wildcard for both CLMI
and CLMS. Users can monitor network I/O activity between the host CPUs and the CLIM or
CLIMs, and monitor I/O activity of CLIM-attached storage. Measure supports two new counters
for the IP CLIM node class.
Measure’s CLIM support is similar to its support for previous SACs: Measure assumes that the
storage CLIM is a storage SAC, similar to the FCSA, and Measure assumes that the IP CLIM is
a communications SAC, similar to the E4SA.
A CLIM is identified by group, module, slot, port, and fiber, which indicate the physical location
of the P-Switch it is connected to and the port on which it is connected.
The Measure DEVICE and DISC entities use lun and path to identify a CLIM-attached storage
device. The Measure display and the DDL fields show sac, lun and path (scsi-id is not used for
CLIM-attached storage). The sac is the name of the CLIM. The lun parameter is a logical unit
number that is unique only within a CLIM. The path parameter is the data transfer route to the
operating system disk volume. Measure handles paths in a similar manner as for FCSA storage;
for CLIM, Measure also allows the user to select specific paths.
Open System Management (OSM)
Open System Management (OSM) has been enhanced to add support for the new hardware
products that ship with the J06.04 RVU.
OSM Server
The OSM Service Connection Suite, T0682 H02 ABN, provides support for the CLuster I/O Module
(CLIM) and SAS disk enclosure:
