About This Document This compendium provides categorized information about new features, migration issues, and fallback considerations for J06.09. It also includes references and sources for migration planning. Supported Release Version Updates (RVUs) This manual supports the J06.09 RVU only. Intended Audience This compendium is written for system managers or anyone who needs to understand how migrating to J06.
The guide provides information for migrating from a previous G-series, H-series, or J-series RVU to the current RVU. HP Encourages Your Comments HP encourages your comments concerning this document. We are committed to providing documentation that meets your needs. Send any errors found, suggestions for improvement, or compliments to docsfeedback@hp.com. Include the document title, part number, and any comment, error found, or suggestion for improvement you have concerning this document.
1 J06.09 Overview This chapter provides an overview of the J06.09 RVU. Major New Features Table 1-1 summarizes the main changes in J06.09. For descriptions of new features, see the appropriate chapters. Table 1-1 Summary of the J06.
Preparation, Planning, and Migration • • • • • • • • • • 10 If you are migrating from a G-series to a J-series RVU, before you begin migrating applications, contact your HP representative to analyze your applications and identify specific modules and program components that require changes for migration to a J-series RVU. If you are migrating from an H-series to a J-series RVU, modules and program components require no changes.
2 Operating System OSS Network File System (NFS) and ACLs Beginning with the J06.09 RVU, you can use OSS Network File System (NFS) Version 2 clients to access OSS objects protected by ACLs that contain optional ACL entries if the NFSPERMMAP attribute value for the fileset that contains the object is set to a value other than DISABLED.
Fallback Considerations If you install prior versions of T1084 and T1085, but not T9050, the system will continue to enforce TLE limits. If you have used SCF to configure a new TLE_LIMIT value, the system will continue to use the configured TLE_LIMIT value rather than the default. You will not be able to either set or query the limit through SCF. You will be able to query the limit through PROCESSOR_GETINFOLIST_.
3 Application Development Products The J06.09 RVU contains no new features for installation and configuration products.
4 Database and Transaction Processing Products SQL/MX 2.3.4 Enhancements The NonStop SQL/MX 2.3.4 release includes the following new features: • You can now specify one of the following ACTION clauses as part of the referential integrity constraint feature: — CASCADE When this clause is specified with the ON DELETE referential triggered action, a row from the referencing table that relates to the row deleted from the referenced-table is deleted.
• • The OSS ODBC/MX Client Driver is thread-aware and thread-safe, which means that it can be used with multi-threaded C/C++ programs that use the T1248 standard POSIX thread library. The statistics and trace information is now captured in the Event Management Service (EMS) even when it is enabled for the existing client connections. Migration Considerations To use the SQL/MX 2.3.4 features, a new version of the JDBC T2 driver, T1275 H50 AAR, must be installed on the systems running J06.
5 Installation and Configuration Products The J06.09 RVU contains no new features for installation and configuration products.
6 Manageability Products OSM Enhancements OSM Service Connection (T0682H02^ACC) adds support for: • • • • • • • • • NonStop Volume Level Encryption, including a guided procedure that provides a simple and secure method for registering CLIMs with Enterprise Secure Key Managers. Using HP Insight Remote Support Advanced (Insight RSA) on multiple Central Management Servers (CMSs) to provide fault tolerance for remote support of NonStop NS-series systems and NonStop BladeSystems.
Fallback Considerations None. Volume Level Encryption for Disks and Tapes Volume level encryption for data at rest on tape and disks connected with Storage CLIMs is supported on NonStop Integrity BladeSystems (J-series), NonStop Integrity NS16000 series servers (H-series), and NonStop Integrity NS2000 series servers (H-series). For more information, refer to the NonStop Storage Encryption Guide.
7 Hardware Products The J06.09 RVU contains no new features for hardware products.
8 Networking Products BladeCluster Solution Supports Multi-Zone and Long Distance Topologies The BladeCluster Solution has been enhanced to support: • Multi-zone topologies: — Up to 8 BladeSystems and/or NS16000 series nodes per zone (however, at most 5 out of the 8 nodes in a BladeCluster zone can be NS16x00 servers) — One to three zones for a maximum of 24 nodes per cluster • Longer distances: — Up to 125 meters between nodes — Up to 25 Kilometers between zones Migration Considerations These features
Migration Considerations These are new options to existing commands. For information about how to use these features, see the Cluster I/O Protocols (CIP) Configuration and Management Manual. Fallback Considerations The primary option will not work on pre-J06.09 RVUs. For the MTU-size option, any value configured on an interface on J06.09 or later RVUs will be maintained on pre-J06.
A Sources for Migration Assistance and Information This appendix describes the assistance HP provides when problems arise during the migration and testing process. HP also provides services that can help you develop a migration plan and implement migration tasks. Most migration and release documentation is available through the HP NonStop Technical Library (NTL).
• Outage Prevention Notifications, Hotstuff messages, and Support Notes • Prerequisites for an SPR • Available SUTs and Independent Products After researching available SPRs, you can download those you consider appropriate for your systems directly to your workstation, or you can request tape delivery.
